Getting started

This page is the short version of setting up your store. Do the steps in order. Each one takes a few minutes, and you can stop and come back later — Shopify saves your work as you go.

You do not need to know any code.

Before you start

You need a Shopify store you can log in to, and your logo file if you have one. Everything else can wait.

The first steps, in order

  1. Install the theme. Add the theme to your store from your Shopify admin. It is installed but not live yet, so nothing your customers see changes.

  2. Open the theme editor. The theme editor is where you change how your store looks. Open it from your theme list in the Shopify admin. Changes you make are saved to the theme, not published to customers, until you publish it.

  3. Preview the theme first. Look at your store in the preview before you publish. This is the safest moment to change your mind.

  4. Pick a style. The theme ships with several ready-made styles. Choose the one closest to the look you want, then adjust from there — starting from a style is much faster than changing every setting yourself.

[VERIFY] Style picker location and label

The exact place and name of the style setting still needs checking in the theme editor.

  5. Add your logo. Upload your logo and check how it looks on both a computer and a phone. If it looks cramped, a wider logo file with less empty space around it usually fixes it.

[VERIFY] Logo setting name and section

Needs checking in the theme editor before this step names a label.

  6. Set up your menus. Menus are the links across the top of your store and in the footer. Build them in your Shopify admin under navigation, then choose which menu the theme shows.

[VERIFY] Header and footer menu settings

Needs checking in the theme editor before this step names a label.

  7. Add your products. Add products in your Shopify admin, with photos, prices, and your size and color options. Group them into collections so customers can browse.

  8. Check your store on a phone. Most customers will visit on a phone. Open your own store on your phone and walk through it: home page, a collection, a product, and adding to cart.

  9. Publish when you are happy. Publishing makes the theme live for customers. You can go back and keep editing afterwards.

About the [VERIFY] notes

Some steps above are marked [VERIFY]. That means the step itself is correct, but the exact name of a button or setting has not been confirmed in the theme editor yet, so it has deliberately been left out rather than guessed. Those notes will be replaced with the real labels and screenshots.

What next

Once your store is live, the print-on-demand guides cover product pages, size guides, and delivery expectations in detail. Those pages are being written.
